About the Role
Our client is focused on the design, build and maintenance of telecom infrastructure for key clients in the fixed telecom market. We are part of the Telecom Division of their group. They deliver a range of essential infrastructure services to the utilities, transport, data and telecom sectors across the UK and Ireland.
Smart City Recruiters are currently looking to recruit a Senior Quantity Surveyor to work on our contracts across the North West of England, based out of our clients Leyland office.
What will you be doing?
As a result of continued growth in the Telecom Division the business requires a Senior Quantity Surveyor to support existing frameworks with one of our key and long established clients. This position will be working predominantly in the North West region across all contracts based at our office in Leyland, Lancashire. There may be a requirement to travel to other site offices. It is essential the candidate has a good understanding and working knowledge / application of the Telecom sector or other utilities and has experience of working in a high-volume transactional environment.
What will your key responsibilities be?
- To plan, control and ensure effective administration of the commercial and financial aspects of all the projects under the framework and to maintain compliance with the conditions of contract and company policies. Working in a team reporting directly to the Commercial Manager
- Work closely with the project delivery teams to ensure compliance with the conditions of contract, maintain the administration of the contract and ensure it is carried out in a correct and timely manner
- Ensure the correct contractual procedures are operated for all projects and through audit demonstrate compliance within the delegation of authority guidelines
- Maintenance of the change control process and financial risk management at project level
- Ensure financial information is available for audits and KPI reporting
- Review the commercial audits and out-turn forecasts on a regular basis with regard to monitoring actual performance against budget and provide updates and action plans
- Work with internal departments to further develop any system improvements, integration and reporting tools
- Regularly liaise with key stakeholders
- Monthly production of cost value reconciliations
- Subcontractor procurement, management, payments and final accounts
- Risk management and maintenance of risk registers
- WIP management
- Monthly, quarterly and annual forecasting and budgeting
- Ensuring commercial cost control procedures are in place and operated correctly across the contract
- Preparation and submission of reports as may be required on a regular and ad hoc basis
- Planning, forecasting, and subsequently reporting contract commercial performance
- Manage all necessary support functions in line with company processes and procedures, producing relevant information with particular emphasis on commercial
What competencies are we looking for?
- Degree qualified in quantity surveying
- Proven utility contracting experience with at least 15 years’ post-graduation experience
- Able to drive and has a UK driving licence
- Demonstrate a working knowledge at the appropriate level within a contracting organisation
- Good communications skills, able to communicate confidently with the client and our client’s team
- Ability to work to tight deadlines
- Ability to manage and prioritise workloads
- Ability to adapt and challenge
- Ability to appropriately delegate tasks to the team
- Strong analytical skills are essential
- Excellent IT skills, particularly Excel
- Ability to operate works management systems is essential
- Excellent numeric and literacy skills
- Knowledge of health and safety
- Knowledge and experience of different forms of contracts
- Demonstrable experience with bespoke contracts is essential
- Accurate with good attention to detail and highly organised
- A competent negotiator, skilled communicator.
