Business Process Analyst / Business Analyst (Process Mapping & Operational Improvement)
Contract: 6 Months
Location: Hybrid (with travel to Reading and Cambridgeshire)
The Opportunity
Our client is seeking experienced Business Process Analysts to join a major operational transformation programme supporting one of the UK's leading telecommunications infrastructure providers.
This is not a traditional IT Business Analyst role.
We're looking for professionals who are equally comfortable engaging with operational teams, documenting end-to-end business processes, producing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs), whilst also capturing business requirements that will enable Solution Designers and technical teams to deliver system improvements.
You'll play a key role in understanding how the business operates today, identifying opportunities for optimisation, and ensuring operational processes and supporting systems evolve together.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with business stakeholders across operational and technical teams to understand current business processes.
- Produce detailed end-to-end process maps across operational functions.
- Document Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs) to support consistent operational delivery.
- Analyse existing ways of working and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality and customer outcomes.
- Translate operational processes into clear business and functional requirements for Solution Designers and development teams.
- Work closely with Solution Designers to ensure operational requirements are fully understood before technical design begins.
- Facilitate workshops with stakeholders to validate current and future-state processes.
- Capture, document and prioritise business requirements where priorities may not always be clearly defined.
- Support operational change by ensuring processes, documentation and system enhancements remain aligned.
- Build strong relationships across business, operational and technical teams throughout the programme lifecycle.
Essential Experience
- Proven experience in a hybrid Business Analyst / Business Process Analyst role.
- Strong business process mapping experience from high-level process flows through to detailed operational documentation.
- Experience producing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs).
- Ability to translate business processes into clear, structured requirements for technical solution teams.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and workshop facilitation skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Comfortable working independently with minimal direction.
- Able to identify priorities and make informed decisions in ambiguous or evolving environments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable Experience
Experience within telecommunications would be highly advantageous, particularly in environments such as:
- Network Operations Centres (NOC)
- Field Engineering Operations
- Mobile or Fixed Network Operations
- Managed Service Providers
- Service Transition or Operational Transformation programmes
Candidates with experience mapping operational processes within technical or engineering environments will be particularly well suited.
Tools & Methodologies
Experience with any of the following would be beneficial:
- Visio
- Lucidchart
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Jira
- Confluence
- BPMN or other process mapping methodologies
Personal Attributes
The successful candidate will:
- Be proactive and capable of hitting the ground running.
- Quickly understand complex operational environments.
- Be confident engaging with stakeholders at all levels.
- Have the ability to bring structure where processes or priorities are not yet clearly defined.
- Take ownership of deliverables and work with minimal supervision.
- Be highly organised with exceptional attention to detail.
