Senior Estimator
Potential to develop to Commercial Director
Duration:            Full time, permanent role
Salary:                 £50,000 - £70,000pa with package
 
Smart City Recruiters are currently searching for a Senior Estimator to lead our clients Estimating team, Based near Skipton, North Yorkshire. The role will focus on larger industrial and commercial projects, although you will also be involved in Residential projects so experience in this sector would be an advantage. There is the potential to develop into a Commercial Director role for the right candidate.
 
Role Purpose:
  • To price and win new tenders, contributing to the company’s turnover targets
 
What we are looking for:
  • Drive and self-motivation,
  • A proven track record in tender preparation and working to tight deadlines,
  • Experience in industrial and commercial construction (ideally with Residential experience too),
  • Team management skills,
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills,
  • A confident communicator and relationship builder,
  • Knowledge of Conquest Estimating software or similar is advantageous,
  • Degree qualification would be preferable but not essential,
 
Key responsibilities:
  • All elements of pricing for bids, including cost modelling and margin assessment,
  • Production, submission and presentation of tender documents and quotations,
  • Completion of Pre-Qualification Questionnaires,
  • Management of relationships with internal teams and sub-contractors,
  • Commercial analysis of projects to ascertain accuracy and profitability,
  • Upon success, ensure the tender is handed over,
  • Support and management of a small team of Estimators,
 
General Duties:
  • Analyse enquiry contents, extract commercial requirements, and brief all relevant departments of requirements,
  • Interpret the Scope of Work,
  • Place sub-contractor /supplier enquiries where necessary and analyse the quotations as appropriate,
  • Carry out quantity take-offs of materials and labour operations from drawings, plans, schedules, and specifications,
  • Establish Bill of Quantities and provide Bill of Materials to facilitate material supply pricing,
  • Summarise the Tender and in consultation with the company leadership team, arrive at a Tender Price,
  • Finalise estimates and prepare tender submissions to include all qualifications, considerations and supporting documentation,
  • Liaise with the Client and all relevant parties during the tender period,
  • Attend Pre and Post Tender meetings/negotiations,
  • Gain knowledge of the company’s preferred construction methods and H&S policy to enable planning of the sequence of construction projects, therefore ensuring projects are priced in accordance with the plan,
  • Review Contract documents to identify potential risk areas,
  • Review projects and identify logistical issues and risks,
  • Site visits as required to assess site conditions/constraints,
  • Manage the Sales database and delegation of work to team,
  • Review Estimator Tender packages and quotations prior to submission,
  • Arrange and lead kick-off/handover meetings when a project becomes ‘live’,
  • Prepare handover packages for the Operations team,
  • Provide analysis of current and completed projects,
  • Calculate costs, capacity rates & profitability of projects,
  • Work with minimal supervision within time constraints set by tendering deadlines and client requirements,
 
Additional Requirements:
  • Proficient in MS Excel and Word,
  • Driving licence,
  • Experience in using Conquest estimating software would be an advantage,
  • Have the ability to price earthworks, concrete and reinforcement works,
