The Opportunity
Smart City Recruiters are partnering with a well‑established, forward‑thinking construction contractor delivering high‑quality projects across residential, commercial, and civils sectors. We’re seeking a capable, detail‑driven Estimator who can take ownership of tendering, cost planning, and commercial evaluation across a diverse project portfolio.
This role suits someone who thrives in a hands‑on, fast‑paced environment where quality, accuracy, and collaboration genuinely matter. You’ll be joining a business with strong values, a stable pipeline, and a reputation for delivering work the right way.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce accurate and competitive estimates for construction and civils projects ranging from small works to multi‑million‑pound schemes.
- Interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documentation to build clear cost breakdowns.
- Lead the full tender process: pricing, risk assessment, value engineering, and bid submission.
- Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations and build reliable cost databases.
- Work closely with operational teams to ensure estimates align with delivery capability and commercial strategy.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of materials, labour rates, market conditions, and industry trends.
- Support post‑tender negotiations and handovers to project teams.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes, templates, and cost models.
What You’ll Bring
- Proven experience as an Estimator within construction, civils, groundworks, or general contracting.
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies, materials, and sequencing.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications confidently.
- Excellent numerical accuracy, commercial awareness, and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with suppliers and internal teams.
- Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office.
- A proactive, organised, and solutions‑focused approach.
Why This Role Stands Out
- A stable, reputable contractor with long‑term clients and repeat business.
- Genuine autonomy and trust in the estimating function.
- A supportive leadership team that values professionalism, integrity, and craftsmanship.
- Opportunity to influence bid strategy and commercial outcomes.
- Competitive salary package aligned with experience.
