Overview
Smart City Recruiters are working with a respected civil engineering contractor to appoint an experienced Site Agent to lead the delivery of infrastructure and highways projects across the Wakefield region. This is a key operational role, responsible for managing site teams, ensuring safe and efficient delivery, and maintaining high standards of quality and compliance.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil engineering delivery, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to manage complex site operations from planning through to handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead day‑to‑day site operations across civil engineering and infrastructure projects
- Manage site teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure safe, efficient, and high‑quality delivery
- Oversee planning, sequencing, and coordination of works in line with programme
- Ensure compliance with CDM regulations, company procedures, and H&S legislation
- Conduct site inspections, audits, and toolbox talks
- Review and approve RAMS, ITPs, and quality documentation
- Monitor progress, productivity, and resource allocation
- Liaise with clients, designers, local authorities, and internal stakeholders
- Manage site records, reporting, and commercial documentation
- Support cost control, variations, and early warnings
- Drive continuous improvement and promote best practice across the project
- Mentor and support Site Engineers and junior staff
Qualifications Required
Essential
- Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline
- Valid CSCS (Manager or Professional level)
- SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme)
- First Aid at Work
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable
- Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) or Supervisor (TWS)
- IOSH or NEBOSH certification
- National Highways Passport (if working on highways schemes)
- Training in leadership, project management, or commercial awareness
Experience Required
Essential Experience
- Proven experience as a Site Agent, Sub Agent, or strong Senior Engineer ready to step up
- Background in civil engineering, highways, infrastructure, earthworks, drainage, or structures
- Strong understanding of NEC contracts and public‑sector delivery
- Experience managing multi‑disciplinary site teams and subcontractors
- Demonstrable track record of delivering projects safely, on time, and to quality standards
- Strong knowledge of temporary works, quality assurance, and site compliance
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
- Experience managing client relationships and representing the contractor professionally
Desirable Experience
- Experience on local authority highways frameworks or Yorkshire‑based infrastructure programmes
- Exposure to utilities diversions, deep drainage, or reinforced concrete structures
- Experience with digital site management tools (FieldView, Viewpoint, CDE platforms)
